Perlas Pilipinas blasts Singapore in SEA Games 2017 opener

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Perlas Pilipinas opened its 2017 Southeast Asian Games campaign on a high note with an 88-54 thumping of Singapore at the MABA Stadium here on Sunday, August 20.

The Philippine national women’s basketball team wrestled control from the get-go and broke the game open in the second period.

UAAP Season 78 Most Valuable Player Afril Bernardino paced the Filipinos with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting off the bench. Her presence allowed her team to outscore Singapore by 37 points.

Janine Pontejos had 13 points, while Camille Sambile posted 10 markers and 7 boards, as the Philippines led by as many as 37 points.

The Philippines next takes on Indonesia on Monday, August 21.
