UAAP 78 to open on Sept 5 – FEU athletic director

MANILA, Philippines – The 78th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is scheduled to open on September 5, 2015.

The news was announced on Twitter by Mark Molina, the athletic director of Far Eastern University - one of the league’s participating schools - on Wednesday morning, February 4.

Season 78 will be hosted by University of the Philippines. Season 77, which is currently on-going, is being hosted by University of the East.

The opening of Season 78 will take place close to two months after the typical opening day of the league in previous years due to the shift in the academic calendars of the universities.

The popular men’s basketball tournament of the UAAP, which normally lasts from early July up to late September or early October, will now be held from early September up to December, according to Molina.

Love new UAAP sked. Basketball should be done early Dec then volleyball and football start in January. No more xmas break mid tournament — Mark Molina (@marqmolina) February 4, 2015

De La Salle University and University of Sto. Tomas are currently locked in a tight battle for the UAAP Season 77 general championship. La Salle won the overall championship in both Season 75 and Season 76. –
