UAAP Jrs MVP Pingoy denies Ateneo is final – report

MANILA, Philippines – Nothing’s final yet.

Contrary to several reports, reigning University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Juniors MVP Jerie Pingoy has not yet committed to any collegiate team, according to a report on Spin.ph.

“There are a lot of schools that are trying to recruit me but I have not made any decisions with regards to that matter,” the Spin.ph report quoted Pingoy as saying.

Pingoy is in the middle of a recruitment battle between the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws and the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles.

Earlier today, Blue Eagle team managed Paolo Trillo confirmed to Rappler and several news outlets that Pingoy would be moving to Ateneo for college.

However, FEU athletics director Mark Molina insisted that Pingoy and his father had already signed an agreement with the university. In a tweet, Molina said he hopes the agreement would be “honored and respected.”

The Juniors MVP, however, told Spin.ph that it was “not an official contract.” He said the agreement was that FEU would support his and his siblings’ education should he join the seniors squad in season 76 of the UAAP.

The report also put another university into the mix.

“I just might return to the University of Cebu nalang,” he told Spin.ph, admitting that he is under a lot of pressure as he approaches the end of his high school years. -Rappler.com
