Gritty FEU Lady Tamaraws outlast UP Lady Maroons
MANILA, Philippines- The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws escaped the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in a nail-biting 5-set win, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12, in the UAAP Season 78 Women's Volleyball tournament on Sunday, February 21, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Bernadeth Pons and Toni Rose Basas unleashed an impressive outing with 21 points each while Heather Guino-o added 10 markers.
FEU is now tied with National University with a 3-2 win-loss record while UP dropped to 2-3.
"Pinaghandaan talaga namin yung UP dahil alam namin na contender talaga ang UP," said FEU Coach Shaq Delos Santos.
(We really prepared for UP because we know they're contenders."
The two teams opened the game in a neck-and-neck showdown but FEU snatched away the first set, 27-25.
UP bounced back stronger in the second frame and stole the momentum from FEU with the prolific attacking of its rookies Isa Molde and Justine Dorog.
The Lady Maroons sustained charge in the third canto only to be trailed by FEU from 11-3 to 18-16.
UP eventually succumb to FEU due to a slew of errors.
33 and 35 unforced errors plagued UP and FEU respectively.
On the other hand, UP's Kathy Bersola, Isa Molde, Diana Carlos, and Justine Dorog all finished with double digits. – Rappler.com
