Ricci Rivero joins the UP Fighting Maroons
MANILA, Philippines – After much speculation, former La Salle star Ricci Rivero has committed to the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, Friday, May 18.
The 19-year old guard confirmed his move via Twitter.
After averaging 14.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals in his final season with La Salle, Rivero will now serve his residencency with the Maroons in UAAP Season 81.
Prior to his move, the 6-foot-1 combo guard was maligned with multiple issues, including rumors of drug use and a subsequent leave of absence from La Salle due to "endorsement obligations."
After his much-publicized departure from the Archers, Rivero dedicated his time to honing his craft with the Gilas Pilipinas 2023 cadets. He was strongly linked to joining other teams like the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, who are now under the tutelage of his former head coach Aldin Ayo.
By Season 82, he is expected to replace the Maroons’ current shooting guard Paul Desiderio and will team up with fellow Gilas Pilipinas cadets Juan Gomez de Liano and Will Gozum. – Rappler.com
