MANILA, Philippines — If they are to win it all on Saturday, the 4th quarter should belong to the Green Archers.

In De La Salle University’s 77-70 Game 2 win against University of Santo Tomas over the weekend, coach Juno Sauler used only 7 players – the same guys who scored in Game 1.

Although it paid off for them as they pulled through to extend it to a win-it-all Game 3, the first-year head coach admits they could have done better.

“Maybe we could have had a better output in the 4th quarter. We only scored 13, maybe they were tired,” Sauler said.

After Kevin Ferrer gave them headaches in Game 1, the La Salle frontline answered as Jeron Teng, Norbert Torres and Arnold Van Opstal each finished the game in double-figures while also effectively clamping down on the versatile forward who only managed to score 6 points this time.

Almond Vosotros, LA Revilla, Jason Perkins and Thomas Torres also provided ample support all throughout the game but Sauler owned up to La Salle’s slowdown in the final canto as the Tigers threatened but failed to overturn the Archer’s hold of the driver’s seat.

“We played with only 7 players. Maybe my choice is wrong [because] they got tired. Hopefully they will score more than 13 [in the fourth] next game.”

The La Salle coach nonetheless praised the way his team adjusted in Game 2, after being whipped by the Tigers in the first half of the opening game of the Finals series.

“We did better today in terms of assists-turnover ratio, 16-8, if we can minimize all the turnovers especially in the endgame,” Sauler said. “We just tried to take away the three-point shots. We addressed UST’s hot start from outside in Game 1.”

Gunning for the Taft crew’s 13th UAAP title, Sauler is making sure his wards are not only physically prepared, but mentally as well.

“We’ll start working on improvement immediately. We got to work on not only on the aspect of basketball but also in the mindset.”

For the first time in 5 years, a new champion will emerge in the UAAP on Saturday night. Will Sauler beat UST’s finals experience or can UST finally win it all this year for the crown? – Rappler.com
