The University of the Philippines ended their UAAP Women's Volleyball campaign on a high note as they demolished University of the East in straight sets

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines ended their campaign on a high note as they demolished University of the East in straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18, in the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament, Sunday, February 16 at The Arena in San Juan City.

Fresh off a big win against Far Eastern University, the Lady Maroons posted their first back-to-back victories since Season 72 as Angeli Araneta ended her year with a bang, scoring 15 points to tow UP to a 3-11 record.

The Diliman crew made short work of the lackluster Lady Warriors as they dominated in the game from start to finish to deal coach Boy Dalistan’s wards a 0-14 season finish in the cellar.

As usual, UP’s youngsters proved to be the difference as sophomore Katherine Bersola added nine points while rookies Monica Ortiz and Alyssa Layug contributed six markers apiece.

UP got off to a hot start as they erected big leads in the opening set that dictated the tempo for the rest of the lopsided match.

UE, however, rode on a mini-spurt in the second as Ma. Shaya Adorador showed glimpses of her past form but the Lady Maroons proved to be too much for them as they take a two-set lead, 25-21.

UP then never looked back as they put UE on the backfoot and did not allow the Recto Avenue-based side return to the game.

The Lady Maroons finishes the season seventh winning three games in 14 outings while UE, who drops their 31st straight UAAP game, settles dead last in the standings at 0-14, grabbing only three sets in the whole season. – Rappler.com
