MANILA, Philippines – Forty-eight games over four years later, Adamson University’s UAAP softball team remains unbeatable.

The Adamson University Lady Falcons displayed a near perfect performance on Friday to topple the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 8-1, securing their 13th crown in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Adamson also recorded a third “four-peat” in 16 seasons and remain unscathed in the last 48 games – including this Season 76’s 12-game run in the elimination round – after last absorbing a defeat from University of Santo Tomas in 2010.

The Lady Falcons, who swept the series 2-0, were enjoying a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals and won Game One with an 11-3 rout.

“We made history in the UAAP and what’s important is we’re the champion,” said Adamson mentor Ana Santiago, who praised all her players for a job well done. “Aside from the championship, everything is a bonus. I told my players that we need to take home the most important thing and that’s the title.”

Analie Benjamen, who batted in two runs at the plate, outplayed five batters as she held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the first five innings that put the Lady Falcons on a good start  en route to winning the title.

“It’s a great day to celebrate and we’re very happy for what we achieved,” said Benjamen, who won the Most Valuable Player and Best Slugger trophies. “It’s a collective effort from all of us.”

The championship also gave graduating players starters Julie Muyco, Rizza Bernardino, Tata Embudo, Elvie Entrina and Carol Banay a fitting farewell.

Adamson cruised to a 6-0 start after four innings and only yielded one run at the bottom of the sixth, where they managed 12 hits against their opponents’ two.

Arrian Vallestero had scored a run for NU after Adamson’s throwing error in the bottom of the sixth.

Bernardino, last season’s MVP, clinched the Most home runs and Best Pitcher awards, while Embudo was the Best Hitter. Vallestero went home with the Most Stolen Bases trophy. – Rappler.com
