League president Chito Salud said in a statement that Cruz was found dead in his hotel room at 6:30 am on Sunday morning, with an initial examination revealing that Cruz passes away from a “mild heart attack.” 

Cruz was in Palawan serving as the Technical Director of the basketball league.  

The former Maroons assistant served as the team’s head coach in their win over the Adamson Falcons, 77-64, this past UAAP basketball season which ended the university’s 27-game losing streak in the tournament.
