The deal comes months after the PVL was left homeless following the closure of longtime partner ABS-CBN

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) found a new TV home after signing a new three-year broadcast partnership deal with Cignal TV on Thursday, February 4.

This comes months after the league was left homeless following the closure of longtime partner ABS-CBN, which also aired games of other sports leagues like the UAAP, now also with Cignal, and the NCAA, now with GMA Network.

ABS-CBN had been PVL’s partner since its days as the Shakey’s V-League.

“In our continuing effort to provide all our viewers and subscribers with an unrivaled sports viewing experience, the addition of the PVL to our lineup ensures millions of Filipino volleyball fans access to their favorite teams and players across our platforms, along with other top-tier local and international sports content,” said Robert Galang, president and chief executive officer of Cignal TV and TV5, in a statement.

“We are proud to share the PVL’s vision of uplifting Philippine volleyball and being competitive not only locally, but internationally as well.”

With this new acquisition, TV5 now has both PVL and the Philippine Superliga, the country’s top two rival women’s volleyball leagues.

The network is also home to men’s volleyball league Spikers’ Turf, which is handled by PVL’s management group, Sports Vision.

“We at the Sports Vision Management Group are looking forward to working with Cignal given their years of experience in covering sports events,” said Sports Vision president Ricky Palou. “As such, we are confident that the coverage of the PVL will be excellent to the benefit of its viewers.” – Rappler.com
