GCash is PH’s most downloaded finance app – App Annie

GCash is the most downloaded finance app with the most active users among Filipino iOS and Android owners for 2020, according to mobile data and analytics firm App Annie. 

For 9 consecutive months since January, the app reportedly took the top spot in the two aforementioned categories, with it recording 10 million downloads within that time period, and growing by 130% in active user growth by September versus the start of the year. 

The research firm added that the finance app has also been growing by 13% monthly on average. 

In terms of active users, following GCash are BPI and BDO’s banking apps, and PayMaya:

In terms of downloads, PayMaya was second to GCash in the months of January, February, April, May, and September. For March, June, and July, PayPal occupied the spot:

GCash’s top ranking follows trends from last year.

“We saw GCash downloads and active user base reach remarkable heights in the span of months during the pandemic as Filipinos are adjusting to the stay-at-home lifestyle,” said GCash president and CEO Martha Sazon. 

“We observed how people rapidly adopted the use of fintech apps in their everyday lives and how it impacted their way of life. And we are proud to say that GCash is leading the revolution towards that cashless lifestyle of the Filipinos,” she added.

The pandemic has forced many Filipinos to adopt contactless and cashless payments to minimize the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus. GCash is one of the local finance apps that allows its users to pay bills, send money, buy load, invest, and get insured, among others.
