2,000 Cavite teachers get tablets as part of education initiative
The province intends to implement 'All Things Internet,' which will connect key branches of the provincial government to the Internet within the next 5 years

MANILA, Philippines – The provincial government of Cavite distributed tablets to 2,000 teachers recently as part of a campaign to integrate technology in the teaching program.

The devices were purchased by the provincial government from a local distributor under Cavite Governor Juanito Victor Remulla’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Integration for Education Project.

Teachers were provided 2,000 HP Stream 7 tablets, which run Windows 8.1 and are equipped with full versions of Office 365.

The province partnered with Microsoft Philippines to provide training and support for the teachers. A Microsoft Educator Network Empowerment Session was held to allow Microsoft education ambassadors to teach users lessons on how to maximize their new devices for teaching.

The teachers will also benefit from the strong Microsoft Education Network and Partners in Learning Program. This will provide additional training and tools, enabling them to better use the new technology they have in teaching.

Clarissa Segismundo, education programs lead for Microsoft Philippines, said: “At Microsoft, our role is to ensure that educators adapt to the way learning has evolved. We invest heavily on teachers to equip them with the right skills to adapt to this change through programs like the Microsoft Educator Network and Partners in Learning.”

Segismundo added: “We want to ensure that all the teachers in the province of Cavite get the right training that will enable them to use their tablets effectively to enhance learning and teaching. Tasks such as computing grades, creating lesson plans, and lectures can easily be simplified with the right tools and training.”

Aside from tablets, Governor Remulla is also working on incorporating TV White Space technology to provide province-wide WiFi connectivity.

The province intends to implement “All Things Internet,” an approach that allows key branches of the provincial government to be connected to the Internet within the next 5 years.

“The next step is healthcare and peace and order, which we hope to implement using the Windows System,” Remulla said.

“We intend to have Internet as a backbone for capacity from which we connect the entire system to branch out into other venues of governance,” he added. – Rappler.com
