MANILA, Philippines – Twitter will be making it easier for users of the Periscope video streaming application to take advantage of Twitter by integrating Periscope’s live broadcasts into tweets.
The Periscope blog explained on Tuesday, January 12, that previously, tapping on a broadcast link in Twitter would open the Periscope app and load the video stream. The integration of Periscope and Twitter means that viewers can now tune in to live broadcasts through the embeddable tweets themselves.
“When you tap the video, it goes full-screen and shows Periscope comments and hearts from other viewers. You don’t need the Periscope app or even a Periscope account,” the blog post added.
Twitter will first be rolling out this feature on Twitter for iOS over the next few days. Android and web versions are slated to be released “as soon as they’re ready.”
