MANILA, Philippines – Instagram released a new photo and video-sharing app for iOS and Android called Bolt on Wednesday, July 30, but unlike other apps of the sort, it’s starting out small by first launching in 3 countries.

Instagram’s Bolt app is now available in New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa.

Instagram’s Bolt – not to be confused with an Android messaging app named Bolt – allows users to sign up using their phone numbers, and then add their friends to start sending photos and video to them.

Users do this by tapping the recipient’s face on the interface to send photo, or pressing to send a short video. Users can undo things they want to send as well by shaking their phone.

Bolt supports text captions on sent photos, as well as the sending of text or photo replies. Like SnapChat, users can also quickly remove shared media by swiping them away.

A spokesperson speaking to The Next Web noted that Bolt was going to “start small,” in order to “make sure we can scale while maintaining a great experience.”

The spokesperson added, “We expect to roll it out more widely soon.” – Rappler.com
