JAKARTA, Indonesia – ASUS CEO Jerry Shen announced Tuesday, April 21, the Southeast Asian availability of the company’s flagship smartphone, the ZenFone 2.

Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop and the ZenUI 2.0 user interface, the ZenFone 2 sports a 64-bit Intel Atom Quad Core Processor (either the Z3580 2.3GHz or the Z35601.8GHz types) and 4GB 64-bit dual-channel RAM and PowerVR Series 6 GPU.

Intel President and General Manager in the Asia-Pacific and Japan region, Robby Swinnen, said of the team-up between Intel and Asus, “With the ZenFone 2, ASUS is giving consumers a great mobile experience in a sleek form factor, combining the 64-bit Intel Atom processor with Intel’s LTE-Advanced Intel XMM 7260 solution.”

The ZenFone 2 features a 5.5 inch superbright IPS 1920×1080 Full HD Display and takes advantage of super scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with 20nm Olephobic anti-fingerprint coating, allowing for the least touch friction. The touch panel is ultra-sensitive, with GloveTouch support and 60ms touch screen response time.

The ZenFone 2 also uses a 5 megapixel front facing camera, with 85-degree field of view, large-aperture f/2.0, and a 5-element lens.

On its rear is a 13 megapixel camera, with an autofocus feature, Large Aperture f/2.0, and a 5-element lens. The PixelMaster Camera allows for a 140-degree Selfie Panorama, supporting low-light mode and allowing for brighter photos and videos.

“With all these enhancements, we strongly believe that the ASUS ZenFone 2 can meet our loyal ASUS ZenFone customers’ expectations,” said Shen.

Pricing for the ZenFone 2’s various models will begin at 2,699,000 Indonesian Rupiah or $208. Philippine pricing was not yet available, but Asus has promised that the high-end variants of the ZenFone 2 will be available in the Philippines. – Rappler.com
