Netizens on Grace Poe DNA test: ‘Absurd, doesn’t prove anything’

MANILA, Philippines – On September 21, Monday, presidential front runner Senator Grace Poe faced the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) to address allegations questioning her citizenship. 

The disqualification case filed by former senatorial candidate Rizalito David before the Commission on Elections argues that since Poe is a foundling, there is a possibility that she is not a natural-born Filipino, a qualification for candidates seeking a national post.

During the hearing, Poe’s counsel Alex Poblador revealed that the senator “has taken steps towards having a DNA test conducted with a probable biological match.”

Will this be enough to establish that she is a natural-born Filipino? 

“If you have a conclusive match, there’s a conclusive presumption. That will solve all our problems here, you cannot argue against that anymore,” affirms SET Chairperson Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio. 

Netizens, however, aren’t convinced.

“DNA does not prove citizenship! Citizenship is a legal matter, DNA is a biological matter,” argues Danny Ching on Facebook.
