Acer’s budget tablet the Iconia A1-830 is the spitting image of Apple’s 7.9-inch iPad mini but runs on Android and scaled down hardware.

LOS ANGELES, USA – Acer takes on the iPad mini with it’s own 7.9-inch tablet, the Acer Iconia A1-830. At first glance the Iconia looks like an iPad mini clone complete with an aluminum back plate (although this one is removable), but make no mistake, specs wise there is no comparison.

Similar to the iPad mini the Iconia A1-830 features a 4:3 display albeit with a much lower 1024 x 768 resolution. Everything else is scaled down to justify its $150 price tag, which by Android standards is a steal.

The Acer Iconia A1-830 is powered by an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (expandable up to 32GB via an optional microSD card) and runs on Android 4.2.1 Jellybean. Acer went with Intel’s Clover Trail processor and not its newer, more powerful Bay Trail chip.

Acer is mum about camera and battery specs but says the device’s rear camera can capture 1080p video at 2560 x 1920 while it’s front facing camera can capture images at a 1600 x 1200 resolution. It’s battery is rated to last 7.5 hours.

The A1-830 will be available in North America in the 1Q of 2014. The device debuts at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.  – Rappler.com
