Hello!

Dear Rappler readers,

It is said that misfortune comes in threes. This week is a classic example of tragic trilogies.

The week before, 17 year-old boy Kian delos Santos’ death sparked national outrage. Now, the deaths of 19 year-old Carl Arnaiz and his friend, 14 year-old Reynaldo de Guzman surfaced, along with gruesome photos of their corpses.

It was a busy week for the Philippine Senate as it carried on a series of probes. Three highlights: the spat between senators Richard Gordon and Antonio Trillanes over the latter’s “unparliamentary” behavior, the buzz over Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s “triad” tattoo, and the millions of pesos in the younger Duterte’s bank accounts.

North America continues to be battered by 3 consecutive hurricanes - Harvey the week before, Irma this week, and Jose, who threatens to follows Irma’s path.
