Promote ASEAN, NYC chair Aiza Seguerra urges youth
'Getting to know the ASEAN is a must for all of us,' National Youth Commission chair Aiza Seguerra tells youth leaders of ASEAN

MANILA, Philippines – National Youth Commission (NYC) chairman Aiza Seguerra challenged youth leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Thursday, April 27, to promote the regional bloc as they prepare a statement to the region’s leaders.

“Getting to know the ASEAN is a must for all of us. As citizens of the region, we are duty-bound as youth leaders to be at the forefront of activities that promote ASEAN awareness,” Seguerra said at the preparatory meeting for ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with the Youth.

“In our discussions today, please let us keep in mind that the statement that we will convey to our leaders will also carry with it our sustained passion to prepare the best future for this generation of ASEAN youth,” Seguerra, a former child star, added.

The NYC chair also said, “Ultimately let us work together with an open mind, an open heart, to prepare the best, bestest of the best statement, that captures the very essence of the task that was entrusted to us, to translate the ASEAN Youth Work Plan into action.”

The ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with the Youth, is scheduled on Saturday, April 29.

In 2016, the same event in Laos was attended by ASEAN heads of state and government, the ASEAN secretary-general, and at least 10 representatives of ASEAN youth, or two youth representatives from each of the 10 ASEAN member-states.

The Philippines is chairing ASEAN this year, the first time for Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to host heads of state in an international meeting held here. (READ: Why you should care about ASEAN integration– Rappler.com
