IN PHOTOS: Leonardo DiCaprio's secret visit to Indonesia
JAKARTA, Indonesia — Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who just won his first Best Actor Oscar for his role in "The Revenant", secretly traveled to Gunung Leuser National Park in Aceh on Sunday, March 27 along with his fellow actors Adrien Brody and Fisher Stevens.
The group was in Aceh to check out the wildlife around Ketambe Research Station. During their trip, they saw elephants, orangutans and others. Many local elementary students came close to the chopper to see and welcome the celebrities. Their visit surprised the locals.
DiCaprio spent nearly two hours watching the orangutans according to the official Gunung Leuser website.
The actor also crossed the Alas River during his trip to Mount Leuser National Park.
"Leo was very amazed by the beauty of the forest Gunung Leuser National Park," the park's website said.
DiCaprio is a well-known environmental activist. Among his past causes include the protection of Aceh’s natural resources, which are threatened by deforestation and palm oil production. —Rappler.com
