‘X-Factor Israel’ winner Rose Fostanes’ visa type can be changed, says ambassador

MANILA, Philippines – Israeli Ambassador to Manila Menashe Bar-On assures Filipinos that there is no need to worry about X-Factor Israel winner Rose Fostanes’s visa status in their country.

This, after it was reported that Fostanes will not be allowed to sing professionally due to her special caregiver visa.

“The responsibility of the show’s producers is to promote her,” the Ambassador said. “I’m sure they will find a way to fix her status and the authorities will be happy to help.”

Ambassador Bar-On explained that like most countries, Israel has a particular visa for every foreigner who wishes to stay in their country, depending on their purpose. Caregivers who wish to work in Israel are given the caregiver visa which allows them stay and work for one family. Singers, actors, and other professional performers have their own type of visa.

Like most Israelis, the Ambassador was captivated by Rose’s voice. “I was able to watch a repeat of the finals on television. She was amazing. I am very happy she won.”

He added that with her win, she can also be considered as an ambassador both for the Philippines and Israel – promoting both countries as a Filipina and Israel’s winner. 

The 47-year-old Filipina has been working in Israel since 2008, reportedly caring for an elderly woman. After winning the competition, Rose said that she will go back to the family she is working for to continue being a caregiver.

In the audition episode of the show, Rose said: “I feel that everybody is looking at me like I was an alien – a Filipina working here, cleaning houses.” Since hearing her rendition of Shirley Bassey’s “This is My Life” and getting a standing ovation from the audience and the judges, viewers of the show started seeing the Filipina caregiver more for her talent than her background.

Rose joins the likes of Jessica Sanchez and Jasmine Trias, Filipinas who have showcased Filipino talent in reality singing shows abroad. – Rappler.com
