15 photos that get us all excited for ‘Cinderella’

MANILA, Philippines – Disney’s live-action Cinderella opened in Philippine theaters March 12 – it’s a rich, vibrant interpretation by Kenneth Branagh that likely won’t disappoint fans of the romantic Disney film that gave us unforgettable classics like “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” and “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.” (WATCH: Cinderella meets her Prince in new ‘Cinderella’ trailer) 

The new film isn’t a musical, and the characters don’t break into song, but the heady romanticism and dreamlike feel remains – and Ella retains her sweet nature, heart full of kindness and courage, and love for cuddly woodland animals. And when Cinderella shows up at the ball, the impact is as breathtaking as ever. 

Before the film’s release, let’s get to know some of the characters.

Ella

Ella (Lily James) is a kind, caring, and sweet girl who was left under the care of her cruel stepfamily, who treated her more like a servant girl than a stepdaughter. She was then dubbed Cinderella, after her sisters taunt her with names like Dirty-Ella and Cinderwench. 

Kit (The prince)

Prince Kit (Richard Madden) first chanced upon Ella in the forest, unlike the 1950 version where they only meet at the ball. Of course, he can’t stop thinking about her. But in this version of Cinderella, the prince’s duties are also made clear to him – will he defy the odds to marry for love?

Lady Tremaine and her daughters 

Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchett) was left to care for Ella after her husband, Ella’s father, exits the picture. She makes sure that Ella’s life is a living hell, turning her into a servant for her two young (and unpleasant) daughters.
