MANILA, Philippines - Zynga has announced the first phase of a planned cost-cutting process that is expected to reduce the total workforce of the company by 5 percent. The process began with announcements on the Facebook pages for FishVille and Treasure Isle, which are now scheduled to close on December 5.

As earlier reported by GamesIndustry International, Zynga made known its plans to reduce its workforce by 5 percent on October 23, during the announcement of the iPad Mini and 4th generation iPad. FishVille and Treasure Isle appear to be the first two of 13 games set for closure in the coming months, along with the reduction of manpower in or outright closure of some of Zynga's studios.

Information regarding user statistics for the games seem to suggest a decline. FishVille, which garnered 7.45 million daily active users (DAUs) at its highest point, now pick up 70,000 DAUs and 730,000 monthly active users (MAUs). Treasure Isle currently has 80,000 DAUs and 540,000 MAUs. - Rappler.com
