MANILA, Philippines – Globe users who enjoy mobile Facebook use have something to smile about today. Globe announced it would enable 3 months of free access to its users.

Globe said it would allow Facebook access with no data charges for an initial 3-month period, gradually rolling out the availability to its users.

This new announcement affects most of Globe’s 36 million-strong subscriber base. The availability of the free Facebook initiative is expected to cover all Globe Prepaid, Postpaid, and TM subscribers by October 31.

Once enabled for an account, a user can access Facebook for free on feature phones or smartphones by going to Facebook’s mobile site or using the Facebook app.

Both Globe and Smart have had prior team-ups with Facebook. Smart joined forces with the social network earlier this year to offer free or discounted rates for Facebook Messenger access. Globe also had a similar promotion back in 2012, though that appeared to be a month-long arrangement. 

Of the arrangement, Facebook’s VP of partnerships Chris Daniels remarked about what the company aims to do. “Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected,” said Daniels.

He adds, “Globe understands the opportunities giving people access to the Internet brings and we’re thrilled to be working with them to give Globe subscribers access to Facebook without data charges across our apps and mobile website.” – Rappler.com
