MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III is on his way to Russia to attend the 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Vladivostok this weekend, Malacañang said on Friday, September 7.

In his departure speech, Aquino said that the meeting is a chance for the Philippines to encourage investors from other member-nations “to do business in our country.”

“The capital they will invest in our country will help build a strong foundation for the future of our people.”

The President also noted that the APEC Summit is an opportunity for dialogue and to “further strengthen our relationship toward prosperity.”

In this sense, the Philippines will push for trade and investment to be made “clear and acceptable” in the Asia-Pacific region, he said.

“It is important to take part in this meeting, as we are aware there is no single country in the world — no matter how big or small on the map — will progress alone.”

Aquino added: “While each nation addresses its challenges and needs, the realization of global development is possible only if all unite moving forward.”

The Philippine delegation in Russia, according to Aquino, “will dedicate our every minute to achieve our national aspirations.”

“Our promise remains the same: in every journey, we have no other goal but to bring good news to our country.”

Aquino did not mention any development regarding a possible meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao, which is still being finalized as of posting time.

In a briefing in Malacañang, Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang told reporters that the President’s full schedule will be known “by the time he gets to Vladivostok.”

“As of now, there is no definite word from the DFA if a bilateral meeting with China has been scheduled. Hopefully, by the time they get to Vladivostok, we will have a final word on that,” he said. – Rappler.com
