MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines will experience a storm-free weekend after tropical depression Fabian on Friday morning, June 21, left the country earlier than expected.
Fabian has left the Philippine area of responsibility as of 4 am on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA’s earlier projection showed Fabian will leave early Saturday morning, June 22. Fabian entered the country on Thursday, June 20, shortly after tropical storm Emong left the Philippines.
Fabian is now around 340 kilometers west of Laoag City, and is expected to have no direct impact on any part of the Philippines.
Despite its distance, however, Fabian is likely to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms. PAGASA warned the western section of Luzon, particularly Palawan, to prepare for this.
The bureau also kept its warning for fishermen, especially those using small seacraft, not to venture out into the western seaboard of Luzon due to big waves caused by Fabian. – Paterno Esmaquel II/Rappler.com
