Filipino lawyer files complaint to review Pacquiao-Bradley match

MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino lawyer has formally filed a class suit before the Nevada State attorney general to contest the controversial result of the boxing match between Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao and American Timothy Bradley.

Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal has reportedly mailed on June 16 (US time) a letter complaint, which, according to ABS-CBNnews.com report, is a “class suit on behalf of those boxing fans who also deserved to be heard of their complaint and grievances and whose number is so huge that it is impracticable to include them in this letter-complaint.”

This is the latest formal complaint filed in Nevada for the controversial split decision, which favored Bradley and claimed Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title.

Previously, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum also submitted a formal request to the Nevada State attorney general for an investigation into the controversial result of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight that took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Nevada, USA, on Sunday, June 10. The result of the match has became a hot issue around the world.

In his complaint letter, Macalintal reportedly stated that he gave Pacquiao nine rounds as compared to Bradley’s three rounds. He added that his personal scoring reflected that of a vast majority of fans, sportswriters, experts and analysts.

“As observed by the complainant and almost all those present and those who watched it via pay per view programming, it was as clear as the sunlight that it was Pacquiao who won the fight with his aggressiveness inside the ring as he delivered those powerful punches that clearly hit and hurt Bradley in most of the rounds,” he reportedly said.

Macalintal was among those who watched the match live in Nevada. He claimed that he was seated at Seat No. 4, Row E, Floor Section of the MGM Green Garden Arena.

He admits he is not a boxing expert, but claims that he has been a fan of the sport since he was young. His boxing idols, he said, include Muhammad Ali and Gabriel “Flash” Elorde.

Although an election lawyer, he stated that he has a right to file to complaint because he “strongly feels and believes that the decision rendered by the judges was not fair and did not reflect the true results of the said boxing bout.”

He added that investigating the match would benefit boxing, “for the real losers in such an event, are not only the participants, but the viewing public who deserve all the protections from the state that sanctions the event.” – Rappler.com
