NU protest junked, FEU retains win

MANILA, Philippines – The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on Wednesday, September 5, denied National University (NU)’s protest on their controversial loss against Far Eastern University (FEU).

UAAP basketball commissioner Ato Badolato confirmed to media Wednesday morning, September 5, that NU’s protest was denied.

Last Sunday, September 2, the FEU Tamaraws survived the NU Bulldogs thanks to a buzzer-beater by former MVP RR Garcia. After a deliberation, officials ruled that Garcia released the ball with a tenth of a second left. The ruling gave FEU their slim 77-75 victory.

NU, however, wasn’t convinced.

On Monday, the squad filed a formal protest before Badolato. Had their appeal been granted, a replay of the match would have been ordered, according to a Inquirer report.
