MANILA, Philippines – To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, The Pokemon Company announced Friday, February 26, that two new Pokemon games would be coming to the 3DS.

The announced titles are Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, and they are slated for the 2016 holidays.

According to the announcement site, the new games will feature Pokemon Bank connectivity that allow older games in the series – including the re-releases of Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition – to have their Pokemon transferred into Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. 

While the Pokemon rereleases were originally announced back in November, the announcement of Pokemon Bank functionality for these virtual console versions of the 3 titles bears repeating as the 3 games should be going live on Nintendo’s e-Shop today. Along with the 3 virtual console titles, Pokemon from the Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X, and Y games can also be brought into Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon in the same way. – Rappler.com
