#ClimateActionPH Conversation: What are the top climate change contributors?

MANILA, Philippines – Did you know that the steaks we eat are bad for the environment? Yes, you read it right.

Meat production, particularly beef from cows, has an impact on climate change. In a day, cows emit 250-650 grams of methane. Methane is a greenhouse gas – the cause of climate change. 

Annually, cows and other livestock produce about 90 million tons of methane, which account for 80% of total methane emissions from the agriculture sector.

In the Philippines, the agriculture and energy sectors are among the top emitters of greenhouse gases. Others include transport, waste, forestry, and industry.

We hosted a Twitter conversation last May 4 to better understand how these sectors contribute to climate warming and how we can reduce their respective emissions with accountability.
