MANILA, Philippines – EDSA carousel buses and other southbound city buses have relocated their Ayala stop to a newly opened terminal.
Starting Saturday, November 19, the EDSA Ayala Busway station began operations in Bay 1 of its new site at the One Ayala building. Buses previously stopped at the curbside of EDSA.
The new station, located at the corner of EDSA and Ayala Avenue, is equipped with three bays that can accommodate nine buses each simultaneously. All three bays are set to be fully operational by April 2023.
According to Ayala Land, the station can serve up to 300,000 passengers a day, with terminals serving southbound city buses and point-to-point buses to FTI, Alabang, Sta. Rosa-Balibago, and Biñan. Modern jeepneys and PUVs will also have access to the terminal.
Northbound passengers have access to the station through the McKinley-Ayala Footbridge. A connection to the MRT3 Ayala Station will also open by December 2022.
“The EDSA Ayala Busway Station will benefit mall workers, employees of the Makati Central Business District, as well as holiday shoppers,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said during the bus station’s inauguration on Friday, November 18.
The opening complements the recent announcement of the Department of Transportation of 24/7 free EDSA Carousel bus rides from December 1 to 31. It also comes in time for the uptick in Metro Manila commuters during the holiday season.
“With the Christmas Season almost upon us, we expect this busway station to alleviate the holiday rush travails of commuters,” Bautista said. – Rappler.com
