Vina Morales on ‘Bonfacio’ MMFF awards night results

MANILA, Philippines – Singer-actress Vina Morales said she rather not comment regarding the results of the recently concluded Metro Manila Film Festival awards night.

In an interview with Pep, Vina said she respects the results of this year’s winners. The actress was part of the movie Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo, which won Best Picture, but didn’t pick up awards for the actors or writers. (READ: FULL LIST: Winners, MMFF 2014 awards night)

“Ako naman, I can’t really comment on that kasi yun ang nararamdaman ng producer namin. (For my part, I can’t really comment on that because that’s what our producer feels.)

“She feels that if you get the Best Picture, you should get the Best Screenplay. Or you should get the Best Director and Best Story, kasi Best Picture ka.

“Yun lang ang mga questions ng producer namin, but I really respect kung anuman ang naging outcome ng Metro Manila Film Festival. Wala naman kaming magawa dun,” Vina said.

(Those are the questions of our producer, but I really respect what the outcome was of the Metro Manila Film festival. We cannot do anything about it.)

In an interview with ABS-CBN last December, Rina Navarro, one of the producers of the movie, expressed her disappointment that the movie was snubbed in the other major categories, such as Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay.

The acting awards went to Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay for the movie English Only, Please. (READ: Jennylyn, Derek react to MMFF 2014 victory)

Despite the issue, Vina said she is grateful for doing the movie with Robin Padilla, a former boyfriend.

“Ako, I’m so thankful kasi nakasama ako sa pelikulang ito. Nagpapasalamat ako kasi, para sa akin, maipapasa ko ito sa mga anak ko, sa mga next generations pa ng mga anak ko. Di mo puwedeng itapon ang pelikulang ito dahil ito yung katotohanan.”

(For me, I’m so thankful to be part of the movie because I will be able to pass it to my children, to the next generation of my children’s children. You cannot throw out this this kind of movie, it’s the truth.)

When asked about the new movie she and Robin might star in, Vina said she would rather not disclose any details until they start shooting again. What she would like to focus on for now is her singing.

“Actually, I already had a meeting with Mr. M [Johnny Manahan] and Star Records last year so we will start it this year.

“And I’m looking forward to start the album. Nami-miss ko ang kumanta. Siguro, like a concert, yung ganyan, para maibalik ko yung singing ko,” Vina said.
