The Department of Agriculture says it is ready to provide farmers with seeds and drugs for livestock and poultry. Farmers and fisherfolk can also apply for zero-interest loans.

Close to 16,000 farmers and fisherfolk were affected by Tropical Depression Vicky (Krovanh), damaging over P111 million of their produce, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said in its latest bulletin on Wednesday, December 23.

Volume of production loss stood at 942 metric tons, which include rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, and fisheries in Cagayan Valley, Davao, and Caraga regions.

The DA said it is ready to provide farmers with seeds, drugs, and biologics for livestock and poultry, as well as fingerlings and fisheries paraphernalia.

Affected farmers can also tap the indemnification fund from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, as well as apply for zero-interest loans from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council.

Vicky made landfall in Davao Oriental on Friday, December 18, and in Palawan on Saturday, December 19. It exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday, December 20, leaving at least 8 people dead. – Rappler.com
