MANILA, Philippines – Six students from the University of the Philippines bested over 12,000 students from all over the world to bag the top prize in Google’s Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC).

Jeanina Melissa K. Tee, Martin Joseph Alexandre R. Gonzaga, Wesley Paul S. Cortez, Francis Louie M. Karunungan, Nigel Willamson T. Lee and Erika Kathleen A. Uy are the global winners for the AdWords awards. The team was mentored by Professor James Ryan Jonas.

The team won for their work with Sun Cruises Philippines, a Manila-based tour service that shuttles to and from Manila and Corregidor Island.

In GOMC, students are given 3 weeks to create and execute an online advertising campaign using Google AdWords and Google+ with only a US$250 budget.

Another team from a Philippine-based school was awarded the Asia Pacific Winner for the same category. Kaushal Pilikuli, Madhu Konanur Venkataram, Sangamesh Desai, Matthew Chua and Pratik Piyush from the Asian Institude of Management won for their work with Happily Unmarried an India-based lifestyle website.
