MANILA, Philippines – In the world of martial arts, excellence through training is not enough. In order to truly hone their skills, martial artists must compete in as many tournaments as they can.
Budding karatekas are now invited to join the 2nd David B. Lay (DBL) Karate Cup on October 4, Saturday. Registration is open to members of the Philippine Karatedo Foundation – National Sports Assocation (PKF-NSA).
The competition is organized by David Lay, a black belter who was a member of the Philippine National Karate Team. Lay has earned medals in the Southeast Asian Games, the World Karate Federation Championships, and other international tournaments. Today, he is the head coach of the current national karate team and is country director of the International Shotokan Karate Foundation (ISKF) – Philippines.
Lay’s vision is to make our country one of the strongest karate contenders in Asia and the world. Through the DBL Cup, he hopes to raise funds for the country’s participation in international competitions. Next year, a 20-man delegation is heading to the US ISKF Nationals in San Francisco, USA. The national team is also hoping to send a 15-man delegation to the 2016 ISKF World Shotocup in Cape Town, South Africa.
