Meralco to lower electricity rates for 2nd straight month
Households consuming 200 kilowatts per hour can expect a reduction of around P39 from their June 2019 bill

MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced on Thursday, June 6, that it will lower power rates for the second straight month.

The electricity rates for June will be cut by P0.1948 per kilowatt hour (kWh), which means a decrease of around P39 for a household consuming 200 kWh.

Households consuming more electricity will have the following reductions:

  • 300 kWh – P58
  • 400 kWh – P78
  • 500 kWh – P97

With the decrease for June, the total downward adjustment since May is now P0.47 per kWh.

“The generation charge decrease is primarily due to lower charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, despite increases in the charges of independent power producers and power supply agreements,” Meralco said.

Meralco also attributed the lower rates to lower transmission charges for residential customers and reduced taxes. – Rappler.com
