“We have now officially crossed the Php 200 million mark for HENERAL LUNA!
“We can’t thank you all enough for making it possible for the film to reach this new milestone.
“Of course, while our true break-even point is still at Php 240M, it doesn’t diminish one bit our ability to appreciate everyone’s ongoing patronage and support–beginning with those who called into theaters to bring it back, to moviegoers being vigilant about anti-piracy, to teachers requiring their students to watch it, to students bringing their families to see it, to journalists talking about it on TV and radio or writing about it in their columns, to everyone on social media who can’t stop posting about it, and finally to the Juans and Juanas out there who keep talking about it to their “barkada” or “kapitbahay” – sa atin pong lahat ang pelikulang ito. (This movie is for all of us.)”
In another post, Alonso thanked the viewers for making the movie one of the highest grossing historical films in the country.
“HENERAL LUNA, the highest grossing historical film – opens in 96 theaters today – as it starts its 4th week!!! The film started slow at the box office. but because of your generous support, the film has broken norms and patterns and the usual dwindling statistics as each week passes.”
Starring multi-awarded actor John Arcilla, Heneral Luna tells the story of General Antonio Luna, known as one of the country’s best military tactician. Luna wants to protect Philippine independence from the United States, which has trained its sights on the country for colonization, but others don’t agree. The movie shows Luna’s battles not only on the field but also against the Filipinos who betrayed him.
The movie was recently chosen as the Philippine entry to the 2016 Oscars. – Rappler.com
