Melai Cantiveros says she will fight for ‘greatest love’
(UPDATED) 'So kahit anong problema ang dumating, paglalabanan 'yan kasi siya ang forever ko,' says an emotional Melai during her morning talk show

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Melai Cantiveros broke down on her morning talk show, Magandang Buhay, as she spoke about how she would fight for her greatest love –husband Jason Francisco – no matter what problems they face.

This, after Jason posted a 6-part message on their daughter’s Instagram account, saying that their relationship has ended, because he wasn’t happy about her having an on-screen partner on the show We Will Survive.

Earlier on the July 29 episode of Magandang Buhay, Melai’s co-host Karla Estrada presented a saying for discussion: “Sometimes even the greatest love has to end so you can find your destiny.”

Melai later explained why she didn’t believe in the saying, even though Karla and co-host Jolina Magdangal agreed.

“Kasi nga ‘yung greatest love ko ay ‘yung destiny ko,” explained Melai. “Saka ‘yung destiny ko ay ‘yun ‘yung asawa ko. So mahal na mahal ko yung asawa ko, ‘di ba?

(Because my greatest love is my destiny. And my destiny is my husband. So I really love my husband, right?)

She became emotional after that, pausing to compose herself and wipe away tears.

“So kahit anong problema ang dumating, paglalabanan ‘yan kasi siya ang forever ko (So no matter what problems arise, I’ll fight for him because he’s my forever). Forever is a choice and I choose my forever.”

Instagram messages

Talk about a reported breakup swirled when Instagram posts on July 26 appeared to show Jason saying that they were splitting up.

On the babymelafrancisco Instagram account, he explained that their marital problems began when he found out that Melai would have an on-screen partner on the now-defunct series We Will Survive. According to its description, the babymelafrancisco Instagram account is their daughter’s portfolio. The couple has previously tagged the account on their official Instagram.

The on-screen romantic relationship wasn’t what they agreed to, according to the caption, when the show first started. The text also indicated that Jason tried to talk to the writers and producers of the show, but they did not listen to him.

The messages have since been deleted and the account has been renamed to “papalovemela.” The renamed account’s recent photos are of Jason and Mela, and one of them says that he misses his daughter.

On the couple’s official Instagram account on July 29, Melai defended her husband from bashers, who have been saying his reasons for the split were shallow.

“Overprotective siya sa amin sa lahat ng bagay, sa mga mag-asawa pagdadaanan talaga ang mga pagsubok, at ang pagsubok ay unlimited. Kaya sa mga nagbabash sa asawa ko, kung may respeto kayo sa relasyon namin sa akin, sana ay tigilan niyo na at kami lang din makakaayos nito,” she wrote.

(He is overprotective of us in all things, and married couples will really go through challenges, and the challenges are unlimited. So to all those who are bashing my husband, if you have any respect for our relationship, for me, I hope you stop bothering us, as we’re the only ones who can fix this.)
