MANILA, Philippines – TV host Luis Manzano took to Twitter to defend his mom, actress and Batangas representative Vilma Santos-Recto, from critcism that she was one of those who voted for the P1,000 Commission on Huamn Rights budget for 2018.

On Wednesday, September 13, Luis tweeted a statement from his mom, saying: “My mom’s stand on the CHR issue. Unfortunately, she was not able to attend/vote. She was almost confined yesterday and was/is on meds.”

In the statement, Vilma said that she was against the P1,000 budget.

“With so much crime/EJK– they need more resources to these investigations. Ito ang isang ahensya na tumutulong sa karapatang pang tao! (This is an agency that is helping the rights of the people)”



On Tuesday, the House of Representatives voted 119-32 to give the CHR a budget of P1,000. According to Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, the CHR was not doing its job.
