Constance Wu says unhappy tweets not about ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ renewal

MANILA, Philippines – Following the announcement that sitcom Fresh Off the Boat has been picked up for a sixth season, star Constance Wu took to Twitter saying she was “So upset right now that I’m literally crying.”

“Ugh. F*ck,” the actress said.

In another tweet she said “F*cking hell.”

Followers were quick to assume that the tweets were referring to the renewal of Fresh Off the Boat, where Constance plays Jessica Huang, an Asian American mom raising a family in ‘90s Florida.

Constance was also seen replying to a fan saying the show’s renewal was great news, saying, “No it’s not.” The tweet appears to have been deleted.

She was also seen commenting “Dislike” on an post on the show’s Instagram announcing the upcoming season.

However, the star clarified that her unhappy tweets were not about the renewal, and were simply “ill-timed with the news of the show.”

“That was not a rampage, it was just how I normally talk. I say fuck a lot. I love the word. Y’all are making a lot of assumptions about what I was saying. And no, it’s not what it’s about. No it’s not..what this is all about. Stop assuming,” she said.

“Todays tweets were on the heels of rough day and were ill timed with the news of the show. Please know, I’m so grateful for FOTB renewal. I love the cast and crew. I’m proud to be a part of it. For all the fans support, thank you and for all who support my casual use of the word fuck – thank you too,” she added.

Fresh Off the Boat debuted on ABC in February 2015. Loosely based on the life of chef Eddie Huang, the show, set in the ’90s, tells the story of a Taiwanese-American family who move to Orlando, Florida, to open a cowboy-themed restaurant.

Randall Park, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, and Ian Chen are also on the cast, along with Constance, who has since gone on to star in breakout movie Crazy Rich Asians in 2018.
