News of Cory Monteith's death left Lea Michele 'hysterical and inconsolable'

MANILA, Philippines – Following the death of “Glee” star Cory Monteith on Sunday, July 14 (Manila time), friends of his on and off-screen partner Lea Michele said she needs privacy, reports People.

“We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time,” a representative for Michele told People.

Hollywood Life reports the news left the actress “hysterical and inconsolable.” A source close to Michele revealed to Hollywood Life, “She is absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable. She is devastated beyond belief.”

“Glee” producers and Fox have also issued a statement posted on Facebook, praising Monteith for his “exceptional” qualities.

We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” the statement said.

Monteith and Michele played on-screen couple Finn Hudson and Rachel Berry in TV musical “Glee.” A timeline by Hollywood Life reports the couple met on the show in 2009 and made public their off-cam relationship in 2012.

The actress remained supportive of Monteith when he entered rehab earlier this year.
