Mary Christine Jolly camp pulls Derek Ramsay case, hopes to file at DOJ

MANILA, Philippines – Mary Christine Jolly, the estranged wife of Derek Ramsay, has withdrawn the complaint she filed against the actor with regard to his alleged violation of the Violence Against Women and their Children Act.

According to a report from Pep, Mary Christine made the motion at the Makati Prosecutor’s Office Monday, October 13.

Argee Guevarra, the lawyer of Mary Christine, said that they received word that their case would not be tried properly.

“We received very credible information emanating from the prosecutorial service of Makati that our case, the preliminary investigation, will not be conducted along the avenue of ‘Tuwid Na Daan’ (Straight Path),” he said. 

“And that there are external forces out to influence the case in favor of Mr. Derek Ramsay.”

He said that they are hoping to file the same complaint before the Department of Justice before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, in the same report, Derek’s camp denied the accusations of Mary Christine.

In a statement, Joji Alonso, Derek’s lawyer, said: “During the hearing today, Complainant filed a Motion to Withdraw the Complaint stating that: ‘After a series of discussions with complainant, she has decided to withdraw the complaint without prejudice to the refiling thereof, to pursue earnest discussion towards possible settlement with respondent.’ 

“Her counsel, however, offered a different reason, claiming that they received ‘credible information’ that the Preliminary Investigation proceedings will not be conducted along the avenue of ‘Tuwid Na Daan.’”

The legal counsel also said Derek is not interested in settling with Mary Christine. She also said that the complaint from the start was all about money and that Derek refuses to be the victim of extortion.

Prior to the withdrawal of the case, Pep reported that Derek submitted a formal petition to confirm the 2012 agreement between him and Mary Christine.

Aside from their ongoing case, Mary Christine filed a concubinage complaint against Derek and his ex-girlfriend Angelica Panganiban last Wednesday, October 8, using a 2013 magazine interview of the actress as basis. – Rappler.com
