Sacha Baron Cohen says ‘Borat’ won’t be coming back

Sacha Baron Cohen, the actor behind the infamous movie character Borat, has confirmed that the fictional journalist from Kazakhstan won’t be coming back anytime soon.

In an interview with Variety, Cohen said that he initially didn’t want a sequel to the 2006 mockumentary hit Borat, but proceeded with its follow-up Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (2020) because he felt that “democracy was in peril” under the presidency of Donald Trump.

“I felt people’s lives were in peril and I felt compelled to finish the movie. The movie was originally about the danger of Trump and Trumpism. What coronavirus demonstrated was that there’s a lethal effect to his spreading of lies and conspiracy theories,” Cohen said.

He clarified that he brought Borat out again more than a decade later, hoping to have as many people watch the sequel before the November 3, 2020 elections.

“There was a purpose to this movie, and I don’t really see the purpose to doing it again. So yeah, he’s locked away in the cupboard,” Cohen added. – Rappler.com
