WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Emmy Awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 19 (Monday, September 20, Manila time), hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.
The 2021 awards is the second in the pandemic era and will see a return to an in-person, albeit scaled-back show. It will be held at an outdoor tent and will have vaccination, testing, and masking requirements for attendees, made up mostly of nominees and select guests.
Some of this year’s nominees – including most of the cast of The Crown – are expected to dial in from London.

Outstanding Drama Series: ‘The Crown’
It’s a huge night for the Netflix drama about the UK’s real-life royals. The Crown wins the top drama series award at the Emmys. Its stars had also swept acting awards for both lead actor/actress and supporting actor/actress in a drama series categories.
The Crown also won Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series.
Outstanding Comedy Series: ‘Ted Lasso’
The sports comedy-drama about a college football coach who’s tapped to head an English Premier League team wins top comedy series honors at the Emmys. Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso, earlier won Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series.
Stephen Colbert, Hamilton wins
Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand Building Back America Great Again Better 2020 (yes, that’s the whole title) wins Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
The Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-recorded) winner, meanwhile, is Hamilton.

Winslet wins for playing Mare Sheehan in the crime drama Mare of Easttown. According to the Emmys, this is the actress’ second career Emmy win.
