MANILA, Philippines – Maleficent isn’t the only classic tale to get a brand new movie – Cinderella is getting one too, and the newest teaser gives us a first look at the flick directed by Kenneth Branagh.
The minute-long teaser doesn’t give us much except a look at the glass slipper from many, many angles– but it does pique our curiosity about the flick.
Beautiful Ella’s merchant father remarries Lady Tremaine, and Ella also gains two new stepsisters, Anastasia and Drisella. But when Ella’s father suddenly dies, Ella’s left to her own devices with her cruel new family.
We know the rest – there’s a ball, and a fairy godmother, a pumpkin, and mice – but this live action adaptation promises a fresh look at the beloved story.
Regal Cate Blanchett, who’s known for her wide variety of roles including enchanting, kind Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, will play the frosty Lady Tremaine. Meanwhile, Helena Bonham Carter, who’s known for playing darker roles, including a few villains (Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter series comes to mind) will play the Fairy Godmother.
Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) are paired together on-screen as Cinderella and the Prince.
Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera will play the two evil stepsisters, while Stellan Skarsgard and Nonso Anozie will play the Arch Grand Duke and the Captain. Derek Jacobi will play the King.
The film is set to be released in the Philippines March 2015. – Rappler.com
