FULL LIST: Winners, Luna Awards 2020

Brillante Mendoza’s Mindanao won some of the top awards during the Film Academy of the Philippines’ Luna Awards held online on Friday, December 18. The show was telecast on UNTV.

The film won Best Picture as well as Best Actress for Judy Ann Santos for her role as a mother taking care of her cancer-stricken daughter. It also won Best Director for Mendoza, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Musical Scoring.

Santos shared a photo of herself holding the trophy on her Instagram after the awards.

” Maraming maraming dapat ipagpasalamat sa kabila ng maraming pagsubok at dagok ngayong taon,” Santos said. “Maraming salamat sa bumubuo ng Film Academy of the Philippines sa parangal at recognition na ito. Ang mapahanay at makilala ang trabaho kabilang ng mga kapwa ko aktres ay isang napakalaking bagay para sa akin. Sa bumubuo ng team ‘Mindanao’ lalo na kay direk @brillante_mendoza, congratulations!”

(There are so many things to be thankful for despite the challenges this year. Thank you to the people behind the Film Academy of the Philippines for the award and recognition. To be nominated among my co-actors is already a big honor. To the cast of Mindanao especially director Brillante Mendoza, congratulations!)

She also tagged cinematographer Odyssey Flores and others who won that night.

The movie John Denver Trending picked up two acting awards: Meryll Soriano won Best Supporting Actress while Jansen Magpusao won Best Actor.

The Lamberto Avellana Memorial Award was given to the late German Moreno while National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairman and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) president Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso was given the Fernando Poe Lifetime Achievement award.
