Route 196 holds farewell fundraising gig online

All roads will lead to Route 196 for one more time – at least virtually – as the beloved music venue holds its farewell gig on Facebook on September 12.

Access to the gig is free, but to raise funds for their staff, Route is also holding a Zoom meet and greet with the performers for a fee. The meet and greet will be limited to 25 people, and will be done on a first come, first served basis.

The bar announced its first wave of performers, which include bands that have all, at some point, shone on the Route 196 stage: Leanne & Naara, Lola Amour, Thesunmanager, and Banna Harbera.

The bar’s management will be announcing the second and third batches of performers on September 1 and September 4. Tickets to the meet and greet can be purchased as each batch of performers is announced. Tickets are at P300, or P1,000 if you also want the limited edition Route 196 shirt designed by artist Rob Cham.

Route 196 announced that it would be closing down on August 23, saying “Alas, we’re at the end of the road.”

The bar is one of several Metro Manila establishments to close down in the coronavirus pandemic. Makati watering hole NoKal and Cubao party corner Today x Future also boarded up after enduring months of quarantine. – Rappler.com
