MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)– Loren Artajos, who was crowned Miss Philippines Earth-Water in this year’s pageant, will take over as Miss Philippines Earth 2016, following the resignation of Imelda Schweighart last Monday, October 31. (LOOK: Imelda Schweighart’s letter resigning from Miss PH Earth duties)

Imelda resigned shortly after the eventful Miss Earth pageant came to an end, saying that she would be going abroad and could no longer fulfill her Miss Philippines Earth duties. Her resignation comes after the release of an embarrassing video of her criticizing Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin of Ecuador. Before the pageant, she was also panned for controversial comments on President Rodrigo Duterte and Adolf Hitler.

Lorraine Schuck, executive vice president of Carousel Productions, confirmed the news to Rappler via text.

Miss Philippines Earth-Air Kiara Giel Gregorio, who was runner-up to Imelda, was unable to accept the position because of her studies in London.

Kiara confirmed the news via a message on Instagram.

For the past few days, I have chosen to keep my silence because I felt torn. I have dreamt of the Miss Philippines Earth title ever since however, I strongly believe that God blessed me with the Miss Philippines Earth-Air title on the 11th June for a reason and because He has a better plan. As I always say, I see this journey, not as a destination but a mission in creating a culture of change and transformation in the lives of many. For that reason, I will be continuing my duties as Miss Philippines Earth-Air 2016 and still pursue in creating this change through my advocacy campaign, One With the Earth.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Carousel Productions, specially Tita Lorraine Schuck for giving me the opportunity to continue my reign and fulfil my duties here in England and in the Philippines as your Miss Philippines Earth- Air 2016 whilst pursuing my studies,” she said.
