Mutya Pilipinas cancels 2020 edition
The organization says they will focus on humanitarian effort in supporting frontliners and street children

The Mutya Pilipinas organization announced on Thursday, August 13 that it was canceling its 2020 calendar of activities to focus on helping those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Due to the uncertainties brought by the current COVID-19 pandemic and the damage it has wrought the economy, locally, and internationally as well as to ensure the health and safety of our community, the Board of Directors of Mutya ng Pilipinas Inc (MNPI) headed by its Chairman Fred Yuson and President Cory Aquino has decided to cancel its 2020 calendar of activities.”

“In lieu of the 2020 Mutya Pilipinas pageant, the organization will instead focus on humanitarian effort in support of our frontliners and communities in needs, particularly the street children,” he organization said in a statement posted on their social media accounts.

The MNPI said they are ready to send any of the current queens to compete in case any of the international pageants they are partners with will stage a competition.

The organization also invited the public, sponsors, and friends to support the “Beauty in Giving” campaign they are leading to help some of the charitable institutions they’ve partnered with.

“We salute the brave heroes and heroines in the fight against this pandemic. To you, we dedicate the year through our humble efforts in rebuilding the lives of those in need,” the organization said.

Mutya Pilipinas joins the growing list of national pageants who have canceled or moved its 2020 edition. Binibining Pilipinas previously announced that it was postponing its 2020 edition indefinitely while the Miss World Philippines confirmed it was holding its 2020-2021 edition early next year.

The Miss Universe Philippine organization, meanwhile, announced it will stage its pageant on October 25. – Rappler.com
