MANILA, Philippines – The Reina Hispanoamericana 2022 pageant has been postponed to 2023 due to the “political and civil unrest” in host country Bolivia.

The Miss World Philippines (MWP) organization, the pageant’s local franchise holder, made the announcement on Friday, October 14, saying that they commend the “organizers’ concern for the safety of all their global candidates.”

MWP added that reigning Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2022 Maria Ingrid Santamaria is sending her “message of love and support to the people of Bolivia at this crucial [historical] juncture.”

The Reina Hispanoamericana organization also confirmed that the pageant date is now set for February 4, 2023. “This is a situation that is out of our hands. We appreciate your understanding,” their statement read, as translated from Spanish.

Activities for the said pageant, which celebrates Hispanic culture, were initially scheduled to start in late October.

Santamaria is vying to be the second Filipina to take home the Reina Hispanoamericana crown after Winwyn Marquez’ win in 2017. – Rappler.com
